Its 2.5 mm thick blade is very resistant and has a 3.5 cm notched area. This makes it very efficient and allows you to cut natural and synthetic ropes without effort. As with all its knives, OPINEL has integrated its Virobloc locking system which allows the blade to be locked in both the open and closed position. The handle is water resistant and can withstand extreme temperatures from -40°C to 80°C. A ball-less whistle is integrated into the handle and can be used in all weather conditions. Creation of the first OPINEL knife in 1890. In 1897, Joseph Opinel decided to produce his knife in different formats so that it could be used for different purposes.
In 1901, he built a factory at the Gevoudaz bridge because he had to make more and more knives.
In 1950 Maurice Opinel joined the factory. He is now the president of the company.
Invention of the Virobloc in 1955. Joseph Opinel died in 1960 and Marcel Opinel in 1990.
TheOPINEL is now a design icon.
