Navigation lights
On a boat, lighting is mandatory as soon as it gets dark, even if you are at anchor. Every year, collisions between boats are frequent because of missing lights. According to the COLRERG-RIPAM (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea), lights ensure your safety by informing other boats around you of your position, which can be useful in case of distress. They therefore facilitate navigation and prevent accidents at sea.
Picksea has selected for you the products of the brand Navisafe. After narrowly avoiding a boating accident in the middle of the night, Jo Engebrigtsen, the Norwegian founder of Navisafe, created this brand to meet a need. He created the three-coloured 360° Navilight lamp, which is now available in several models: navigation light, three-colour navimountson 360° navigation light with suction cup or magnetized tricolour or whiteon 360° Navigation Light Magnetic Rescue or the Glowtorch waterproof photoluminescent lamp.
At night, a boat at anchor must have a white light visible on the entire horizon. If it is moving forward, each boat must turn on its lights.
FOR MOTOR BOAT
- of less than 7 metres with a speed of less than 7 knots, it only needs a white light visible on the whole horizon.
- of less than 12 metres in length moving forward, it must display red and green port-starboard sidelights shining forward and a white light visible over the entire horizon.
- of more than 12 metres in length and moving forward, it must display red and green port-starboard side lights that shine towards the front of the boat, as well as a white masthead light that shines towards the front of the boat and a white stern light that shines towards the back of the boat.
FOR SAILBOAT
- When the boat is moving forward, it must show red and green port-starboard side lights that shine towards the front of the boat and a white stern light that shines towards the back of the boat. If the boat is less than 20 metres long, these three lights may be combined at the top of the mast.
- of less than 7 metres, it may dispense with lights, but must be prepared to show an electric light or a white light on immediately to prevent a collision.
