Wind indicators
The windvane is one of the essential navigation instruments for sailing. It is essential to know the apparent wind and to be able to have the first indications for the setting of the sails. Of course, other indicators, such as pennons, will be necessary to optimize these adjustments but the windvane is the first indicator. Hawk windvanes are quick and easy to fit and can be mounted either laterally or horizontally on dinghies. For houseboats, there are two models of Hawk windvane hawk wind vanes light, precise and equipped with windex.
Optimize sail trim with the penons
On a headsail, genoa, jib or staysail, the wind indicator are usually positioned near the leading edge on the lower and upper surface of the sail. The penons indicate the laminar windflow at different heights of the sail and allow fine tuning to optimize the performance of the sail and the boat. If the penon is aligned horizontally along its attachment point on the sail, this indicates that the wind flow on the sail is laminar. For the mainsail, the penons are more likely to be arranged along the leech on the trailing edge of the sail. If each penon floats horizontally in the extension of the mainsail at different heights, then our mainsail is well tuned. If not, it is necessary to correct the tension or the twist or both.
